Directions from your hotel to the conference venue

The easiest way to get about in Gent is by bus or tram of the public transport company de Lijn (www.delijn.be/en/routeplanner/">https://www.delijn.be/en/routeplanner/). The three-day pass gives you unlimited travel possibilities for three days. You can buy this pass for 12 EUR from the bus driver when entering the bus, or for 10 EUR in the Travel Centre at the railway station (from 8.30 AM to 18.30 PM). If you would stay longer (for the weekend) to visit Gent, you can buy a five-day pass (15-18 EUR). A day pass is valid on the day of the first validation until 3:59 AM the following day.

If you bought your day pass from the Travel Centre, you have to validate it by inserting it in the yellow reader at the entrance (you do not have to select zones) every time you get on a bus or tram. If you bought your day pass from the driver, it is immediately valid (you do not have to validate it yourself), but you do have to validate it again every time you take the next bus or tram.

To get to the conference venue in Technologiepark, Zwijnaarde, you need to take one of following busses at the front of the Gent Sint-Pieters railway station: bus 47 (platform 10, direction Oudenaarde), bus 49 (platform 10, direction Herzele), bus 70 (platform 6, direction Zwijnaarde), bus 71 (platform 6, direction Nazareth) or bus 72 (platform 6, direction Merelbeke). People staying in hotels Astoria Hotel Gent or Hotel Orion, can take bus 47 (direction Oudenaarde) or bus 5 (direction Zwijnaarde) at the stops closer to their hotel (see screenshot above  or PDF).

After about fifteen minutes, you will cross the bridge over the canal and the E40 motorway, and you have to get off at one of the following two stops:

  1. The first stop marked 'Bollebergen' (for all busses). The Technologiepark is on the other side of the large roundabout. Walk into the park, go straight on at the roundabout; the VIB-UGent research building is the first building on the left.
  2. The third stop marked ‘Technologiepark’ (for all busses except bus 47). The Technologiepark is straight in front of you on the other side of road. Walk into the park, go straight on until you reach a T-junction; the VIB-UGent research building is located across on the right.

In the evening, you can take the same busses back to the Gent Sint-Pieters railway station at the bus stops just across these two stops.

Directions from your hotel to the city center

At the front of the Gent Sint-Pieters railway station, you need to take tram 1 or bus 22 to the city center.
